一、课程的性质、目的和要求
英语阅读是英语专业基础阶段必修课之一,主要目的在于提高学生的阅读理解能力,提高阅读速度,丰富英语词汇,培养阅读技巧,也给学生提供接触各类英语文体,了解英美等国文化,国情,国内外时事的机会,配合《英语精读》课教学,补充阅读量.培养学生细致观察语言的能力以及假设判断,分析归纳,推理检验等逻辑思维能力.向学生提供广泛的语言和文化素材,扩大学生 的知识面,增强学生的英语语感和培养学生的阅读兴趣.
培养学生阅读英文原著的能力,扩大词汇量,掌握较为复杂的英语语句结构以及英语修辞的基本手法,并通过阅读了解英语国家的社会,人文,科技等背景知识。
学生能读懂英美等国家出版的各种体裁的文章与材料,掌握所读材料的主旨和大意,事实和细节,能根据所读材料进行一定的判定和推理,达到每分钟120字的阅读速度,掌握各种阅读技巧.
二、课程教学内容和课时安排
课堂教学内容:《新编英语泛读教程》(第四册)第一至第十六单元的课文,阅读技巧,快速阅读部分。内容多为文艺小说,人物传记,历史故事,宗教传说等.练习形式包括填空,词汇练习,多项选择题. 培养各种阅读技巧(速读,跳读,略读,寻找主题句,预测,篇章结构的理解). 每周一个单元,3 学时，教学十六周，共计48学时.

三、教学方法
教师精练的讲解重要的语言点及难点,课堂学习与大量的课外阅读相结合，采用启发式、讨论式、发现式和研究式的教学方法，充分调动学生学习的积极性，激发学生的学习动力，最大限度地让学生参与学习的全过程。引导学生主动积极地利用现有图书资料和网上信息，获取知识，并使学生在运用知识的过程中培养各种能力。同时，要注意教学方法的多样性，要根据不同的教学对象、教学内容、教学目的和要求，选择相应的教学方法，并鼓励教师积极探索新的教学方法。
课堂教学要与学生的课外学习和实践活动相结合。课外学习和实践是课堂教学的延伸与扩展，是培养和发展学生能力的重要途径，应在教师的指导下有目的、有计划、有组织地进行。课外学习和实践活动应以课堂教学的内容为基础，激发学生的学习兴趣，以及培养学生的学习能力、语言综合运用能力、组织能力、交际能力、思维能力和创新能力。活动应面向全体学生，注意发展个性，提倡人人参与，培养合作精神。
四、成绩考核方法
本学期为考试课，采用闭卷考试方式.学期考核成绩计算如下:平时成绩(包括出席,各类作业,期中考试,课程回答问题等)占30%,期末考试成绩占70%.
五、与其它课程的联系与分工
配合《英语精读》课教学,补充阅读量.培养学生细致观察语言的能力以及假设判断,分析归纳,推理检验等逻辑思维能力.向学生提供广泛的语言和文化素材,扩大学生的知识面,增强学生的英语语感和培养学生的阅读兴趣.
六、学时分配
《新编英语泛读教程》(第四册)第一至第十六单元的课文,阅读技巧,快速阅读部分。每周一个单元, 3 学时，教学十六周，共计48学时.

该课通过阅读多种类型英语短文提高学生阅读能力，包括理解力和阅读速度。教学内容主要包括以下几点:介绍与课本内容有关的文史知识，提高学生的理解能力；阅读中强调根据上下文逻辑关系判断语言含义，注意培养整体理解力；在此基础上提高语言技巧与词汇量。该课强调培养学生对语言的兴趣，在此基础上提高学生的语言使用能力。
